Neturei Karta Regrets Iran Fiasco

Arutz Sheva, Israel/January 2, 2007

The Neturei Karta Haredi religious and anti-Zionist sect has written a letter of apology to its rabbis in the United States, according to the Hebrew NFC website. Several of the sect's rabbis attended an Iranian conference that featured speakers who deny the Holocaust. The Neturei Karta rabbis also shook hands with Iranian President Ahmoud Ahmadinejad.

"Our objective was to publicize the difference between Judaism and Zionism," they wrote. "Not every Jew is a Zionist, which does not represent the people of Israel." They explained that the goal of the conference was to "explore the subject of the tragedy in the Second World War by the Nazis, may the Almighty erase their names, and it was not intended to deny the Holocaust."

The five signatories added they apologize "on the sorrow that was caused by their appearance.
