Pinesdale — The dispute over leadership in a polygamous church is spilling over in a Bitterroot Valley school run by the sect and the school may lose half its 124 students.
Parents whose children attend the Apostolic United Brethren's Pines Academy recently learned recently that only people loyal to AUB President Lynn Thompson will be allowed to teach and that the school's religious curriculum must be more closely aligned with the AUB schools in Utah.
To have good standing in the church, one must view Thompson, who has been accused of molesting girls and embezzling money, of being the source of the church's power and authority from God.
Lex Herbert told the Salt Lake Tribune that he and his wives see the move as the latest effort to isolate critics of the AUB's leadership and that he and other parents are considering homeschooling, founding another school or public school for their children.
