Psychic scammer Sylvia Mitchell busted after swindling woman out of $120G

The New York Post/February 6, 2013

The long arm of the law has a short reach when it comes to a notorious Manhattan psychic.

Clairvoyant scammer Sylvia Mitchell, 38, who has run her con game in NYC, Connecticut and Florida, was busted once again today for swindling a woman out of more than $120,000, police sources said.

From Oct. 2007 to April 2009, Mitchell promised that she would rid Singapore-native Lee Choong, 40, of her "bad spirits" during fortune telling sessions at her Greenwich Village shop, Psychic Zena, sources said.

But, instead of "cleansing" Choong, Mitchell actually wiped her out financially, stealing $128,000 in return for her bogus advice, sources said.

She also allegedly swiped Choong’s furniture, clothing and rent checks.

Choong finally reported Mitchell last Sept. 25, sources said.

Detectives tracked down Mitchell and hauled her into the 6th Precinct this morning. She was charged with fortune telling and grand larceny.

Mitchell is no stranger to the authorities. In 2011, she was accused of taking $27,000 from a Florida in similar scheme.

That same year, Mitchell was accused of stealing $9,000 from a Catskills woman while giving consultations in her Mystic, Conn. shop called Zena the Clairvoyant.
