A Pawleys Island woman claims she was duped out of thousands of dollars by a psychic she visited on several occasions.
The woman told deputies she began seeing the psychic in September of last year. Between then and December she visited the psychic four or five times and paid her $5,139.
The woman said during visits in October, the psychic told her because of the way she spent money in the past, she would have to "cleanse" her money. The psychic also said if the woman did not continue her visits, she would possibly be placed in a mental institution.
In December, the psychic-visitor had the psychic a check for $5,000 " a partial payment for the $25,000 she was being charged. Soon after, she decided she did not want to make the payment, so she canceled the check and ceased contact with the psychic.
The psychic told deputies all the payments she received were for services rendered although she was unable to say how many hours she spent with the woman nor was she able to provide an hourly rate.
She said she would be willing to try to settle the "misunderstanding" with her client but had no idea how to reach her.
