Mentor, Ohio -- A Madison woman faces charges for allegedly using her psychic reading business as a fear tactic to scam people of their money.
According to Mentor police, Gina B. Miller, 40, operated a business called Psychic Reader on Mentor Avenue in Mentor.
An investigation revealed that for 20 years she created a scam to deceive multiple victims by convincing them that various types of harm would come to them or their families if they did not provide her with certain forms of payment.
Mentor Police and the Lake County Prosecutor's Office investigated a complaint involving the theft of money by deception from multiple victims. Police say police provided Miller with cash, jewelry, gift cards and open lines of credit. Several victims also leased expensive vehicles for Miller.
As part of the investigation two search warrants were executed. One search was conducted at the business and the other was at Miller’s home in the 1900 block of Haines Road in Madison, Ohio. Officials recovered evidence, including more than $20,000 in cash.
Miller was arraigned in the Mentor Municipal Court on Thursday on theft charges. Her bond was set at $150,000. Her next court appearance is scheduled for Sept. 24.
Police has discovered hundreds of thousands of dollars in loss to victims. They say they anticipate that amount will increase as additional victims are identified.
