Self-proclaimed Loveland psychic Adam Marks was sentenced to six years in prison Wednesday, years after a woman told investigators he had conned her out of tens of thousands of dollars.
In 2012, Marks was charged with stealing more than $20,000 from a woman with whom he had been in a years-long relationship. Investigators said he got the money by repeatedly asking her for money to "help heal her negative aura, meditate and deal with the huge angel protecting her."
At the time, she told investigators he had conned her out of more than $100,000, though he assured the victim that her money was safe and being stored in a cave in Estes Park.
In 2014, Marks pleaded guilty to one count of theft of between $500 and $15,000, a class 5 felony. His plea deal stipulated that he would produce $75,400 in restitution to the defendant, by the time of his September sentencing. But instead, he skipped town and never showed.
Police did not catch him until March of this year, when he was arrested in Baltimore County, Md., according to CBS Denver.
Adam Marks' brother Steven Marks and sister-in-law Gina Marks were involved in a similarly bizarre scamming case. Last year, the couple was arrested on charges of Class 4 felony theft, accused of convincing a woman to give them $37,000.
Investigators said the couple convinced the woman, who was distraught over a breakup, to buy mystical crystals from them and give them Target gift cards, which Gina Marks later spent on electronics and home goods.
Online court records show that Gina Marks pleaded guilty in 2015 to a felony theft charge in that case and was ordered to serve 90 days in jail and eight years of probation, and to provide more than $36,000 in restitution to the victim.
Adam and Steven Marks' father, John Marks Jr., was convicted in 2012 of murdering his longtime wife, Kathy Adams, also known as Psychic Kay, for the business she ran in Fort Collins.
