North Texas law enforcement has arrested 52 white supremacist gang members and busted up a massive methamphetamine trafficking conspiracy, federal officials said.
The arrests announced Friday by the U.S. attorney are a result of the second phase of an operation that began in 2014. All those arrested live in Texas, many of them in the Dallas area.
The 61-count indictment says the groups operated in North Texas and elsewhere from January 2013 to November 2015. Some of the defendants also face firearms charges.
Two others have been charged but have not yet been apprehended, according to federal authorities.
Police also seized 40 pounds of methamphetamine and 22 firearms.
Those arrested are members of or are linked to the following groups: the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas, the Aryan Circle, the White Knights and the Peckerwoods.
The gangs collaborated with each other and also with Mexican gangs and cartels, authorities said.
They sold methamphetamine and other illegal drugs throughout North Texas and elsewhere, authorities said.
In the earlier roundup, 37 members and associates of various white supremacist groups were charged in the Northern District of Texas with similar federal offenses for their role in a methamphetamine conspiracy. All but one, who remains a fugitive, were convicted.
The operation was led by the Texas Department of Public Safety Criminal Investigations Division and the Dallas Police Department Criminal Intelligence Unit.
As many as 20 of the defendants are members or close associates of the Aryan Brotherhood, authorities said.
Two are members of the La Familia drug cartel in Mexico.
Some of them are related, some are involved romantically and some lived together, police said.
According to the indictment, the defendants used stash houses and other locations to store the methamphetamine.
