Pan Yufang, who was the midwife at the birth of Li Hongzhi, the founder of the Falun Dafa, said that Li has fabricated his birthday and background.
"Li was born on July 7,1952, not May 13, 1951 as he later told his followers," said Pan, 80, who enjoys good health.
Investigations have shown that Li changed his date of birth to coincide with the birthday of Sakyamuni, the founder of Buddhism, in an effort to deify himself.
In the early 1950s, Pan was a midwife at the Shoushan Hospital in Gongzhuling Town of Huaide County, Jilin Province, hometown of Li Hongzhi.
Pan was an acquaintance of Li's family, and she recalled that in the summer of 1952 she was invited to Li's home to deliver the child. The mother needed an injection of oxytocin administered by Pam to help deliver the baby.
According to Pan, Li's birth was normal.
Pan became a midwife when she was 21. "It would be harmful for the Falun Gong practitioners to refuse medical treatment," she said. "Without my help, Li and his mother would have been in danger 47 years ago." (Xinhua)
