Daughter launches action against NHS

A Crieff man's daughter has launched a £100,000 action against Perth and Kinross NHS Trust.

Katrina Fairlie (35) claims a psychiatrist extracted false memories from her during psychiatric treatment after going into hospital in 1994 to have severe stomach pains assessed.

Ms Fairlie alleges she told Murray Royal Hospital consultant Dr Alex Yellowlees during recovered memory therapy that her 64-year-old father, Jim, had raped her and beaten a six-year-old girl to death.

She also claimed that 17 other men, including two politicians, had sexually abused her.

Crieff-based Mr Fairlie, who is a former deputy leader of the SNP, failed in his own bid to sue the NHS for £250,000 last year after a judge threw it out on a technicality.

The controversial therapy technique used on Ms Fairlie has since been discredited by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.
