Holland Sentinen/August 5, 2001

Allegan -- A man has been sentenced to nine months in jail for his role in a cross burning. Kenneth Lee Grauman, 21, pleaded guilty in June to ethnic intimidation charges stemming from the burning of crosses outside a house in March. He originally faced up to two years in prison for the felony charge.

Circuit Judge George Corsiglia on Friday also ordered him to spend five years on probation and complete a boot camp program.

Grauman, of Allegan, also must participate in substance abuse counseling, abide by a curfew and perform 240 hours of community service. He was ordered to pay $1,000 in court costs.

Grauman was awarded 130 days credit for time already served. Three other adults were convicted in the incident. The fifth person involved, a 14-year-old boy, awaits sentencing as a juvenile.
