New York - A Rockland County man who pretended to be a rabbi was arrested at his Monsey home Monday, accused of having sex with minors - including his daughter, authorities said.
According to a federal indictment, 58-year-old Israel Weingarten traveled to Belgium and Israel to have sex with minors. He took his eldest daughter with him in his travels and sexually abused her for nine years, prosecutors said. She is now over the age of 18.
A judge denied bail for Weingarten during his arraignment in Brooklyn Monday.
Weingarten is a member of the Satmar Sect in the Orthodox Jewish community of Monsey.
