Ocala - The Church of Scientology plans to open a church and educational center in Ocala.
The church bought property in downtown Ocala at 50 S.E. 1st Ave., formerly the Weiner and Argo law firm, but a spokeswoman for the church said there was no definite date for the facility to open.
The church bought the property for $465,000. It's still uncertain if all of the 4,500 square feet purchased by the Church of Scientology Mission of Ocala will be utilized, said church spokeswoman Pat Harney.
Harney said there were enough inquiries about the church in the area to warrant a mission building in Ocala, she said. The facility would be for educating people about the basics of Scientology but not for advanced study.
The area's best known Scientologist is actor John Travolta, who lives in Anthony.
