Pune: Indian classical music and spirituality have the power to prevent students’ suicides, spiritual guru and founder of the Art of Living Foundation Sri Sri Ravi Shankar said in Pune.
He was reacting to the recent suicides, mostly among students, in Maharashtra in his interaction with media persons ahead of themusic event organised in the city.
"Indian classical music has great potential. It can heal hearts and minds. We need to develop a taste for it among the youth. It should be taken to youngsters because it connects you with your higher self," the spiritual leader said, adding that Indian classical music and spirituality could reduce depression and divert the youth from suicidal thoughts.
He praised the government’s agenda to teach yoga in schools. "All good things Indian need to be propagated in India and abroad. We must also respect allcultures," he added.
Spirituality was not devoid ofscience, he said. "It is Swami Vivekananda’s birth anniversary today. Swamiji propagated the message of science and spirituality,"theguru said.
He asked followers to save the girl-child.He said, "We need to develop scientific thinking among farmers to encourage agriculture without chemicals. We also need to save the girl child and give them good training and education."
