'Gays are terrorists,' claims televangelist

A televangelist has spectacularly branded homosexual people ‘terrorists’, claiming they use government to ‘force’ Christian priests go against their religion by marrying them.

Former Southern Baptist minister Pat Robertson, who runs the Christian Broadcasting Network, made the bizarre comments on his show, The 700 Club.

Addressing his audience directly, the 84-year-old called gay people wishing to get married in Christian ceremonies ‘extremists’ and said it was time pastors ‘stood up to fight this monstrous thing’.

‘It’s one thing to persuade somebody to believe like you do, but there’s something else to take the arm of the government to force somebody to do something that is against, is contrary to their religion – that’s what these homosexuals are trying to do,’ he said.

‘They’re trying to force people who are Christians to marry them or else face jail, to make cakes honouring them or else go to jail.

‘That’s what we’re dealing with – these people are terrorists, they’re radical and they’re extremist.’

Mr Robertson went on to draw parallels between gay people and the Catholic Inquisition and slammed openly-gay Houston Mayor Annise Parker for issuing subpoenas to pastors opposing an equal rights law in their sermons.

‘If the gays want to go out and do their gay sex, that’s one thing, but if they want to force you to accept it and solemnify it by marriage that’s a different matter,’ he added.
