Chicago -- Defrocked Roman Catholic priest and convicted child molester Daniel McCormack is facing new charges.
The latest charge involves a 10-year-old boy who claims he was sexually abused in 2005, according to the Cook County State's Attorney's office.
McCormack was arrested Thursday, after being served an arrest warrant on the new criminal sex abuse charges.
The former Chicago priest pled guilty to several counts of sexual abuse in 2007. He was paroled in 2009. McCormack has been confined to a state mental health detention facility since his release from state prison because he is classified as sexually violent.
"When we hear that he is being prosecuted again, and inevitably incarcerated perhaps for life," Attorney Jeff Anderson said. "It gives us some comfort to us and those whose lives who have been shattered and torn."
Anderson represents a number of clergy sex abuse victims suing the Archdiocese of Chicago. Among his clients is Darryl McArthur, the first to publicly accuse and sue McCormack for abusing him as a child.
Anderson got the Church to release thousands of personnel files as part of his lawsuit earlier this year.
"We have the deposition of Cardinal George coming up shortly, where we will be examining him about his handling or mishandling of McCormack," Anderson said.
McCormack, 45, is being held at the 1st police district in the South Loop.
He was transported to the criminal court house at 26th and California Friday morning, where he is due in bond court.
