Father Louis Brouillard is accused of bringing another altar boy and Boy Scout from Guam to Minnesota and Canada decades ago, allegedly to continue sexually abusing him.
J.T., now 53, said in his lawsuit filed in federal court Tuesday, that he thought Brouillard brought him to Pine City, Minnesota, around 1981, to attend college, which is what Brouillard told his parents.
According to the lawsuit, Brouillard had sexually abused J.T. earlier on Guam, from 1972 to 1976.
J.T. said in his lawsuit that he lived with Brouillard and his parents in a two-bedroom retirement home.
Brouillard, now 96, still lives in Pine City, Minnesota. He's accused in about 80 childhood sexual abuse lawsuits on Guam.
J.T. said in his lawsuit that, during his third week away from Guam, in 1981, Brouillard took him to Canada and forced him to have sex with him. J.T. said he became angry, pushed Brouillard, and confronted him about his intentions for bringing him to Minnesota.
"J.T. realized that he was only in Minnesota for Brouillard's pleasure and told Brouillard that he refused to be Brouillard's sex toy," states the lawsuit, which demands $10 million in minimum damage.
J.T. is represented by attorney David Lujan. In his lawsuit, J.T. said he asked Brouillard to drive him to his brother's house. That was the last time J.T. ever saw or had a sexual encounter with Brouillard, the complaint states.
The lawsuit states Brouillard sexually abused and molested J.T. from around 1972 to 1976, when he was about 8 to 12 years old, including during school hours, during sleepovers at a church rectory and during Boy Scouts swimming trips.
He was an altar boy at San Isidro Catholic Church in Malojloj and a member of the Boy Scouts of America at the time.
The abuse ended in 1976, when Brouillard was transferred to another parish, the lawsuit states. J.T. quit serving as an altar boy and a Boy Scout, and refused to step foot in the Malojloj parish again, the lawsuit states.
When Brouillard left Guam for Minnesota, the priest allegedly wrote to J.T.'s parents, asking that J.T. go to Minnesota for college. Brouillard offered to pay for the boy's airfare, college tuition, food and housing, the lawsuit states. The plaintiff states J.T. did not want to go, but his mother said he should not pass up on this chance.
J.T. is the 138th person to file a clergy sex abuse lawsuit against the Archdiocese of Agana, its priests, other clergy and others associated with the Catholic Church.
In his lawsuit, J.T. said Brouillard would pull him out of school and take him around during school hours while running errands or attending meetings.
