New York State — A federal judge denied motions Thursday from Keith Raniere, the NXIVM sex cult leader serving time in prison.
Raniere is arguing that the government planted evidence against him relating to his convictions on racketeering, child pornography and exploitation -- and wants to see that evidence.
A judge says Raniere hasn't given a compelling argument in his favor, and is giving him an April 22nd deadline to submit a reply supporting his motion for a new trial.
NXIVM-- described as a pyramid scheme, sex-trafficking operation, fronted as a self-help and betterment group, was headquartered in the Capital Region.
Members included actress Allison Mack and Seagram’s heiress Clare Bronfman.
They, along with Raniere and co-founder Nancy Salzman, were among those convicted in relation to the racketeering conspiracy.
