Prosecutors seek longer prison term for James Arthur Ray

WHBL News, Wisconsin/December 13, 2011

Phoenix -- Arizona prosecutors will seek a longer prison sentence for self-help promoter James Arthur Ray.

He was given two years for causing the deaths of James Shore of Milwaukee and two others in a 2009 sweat-lodge ceremony.

County attorney Sheila Polk filed a notice of a cross-appeal Monday. That was after the defense said it would try to get Ray's conviction and all of his penalties dropped.

Polk said she disagreed with the mitigating factors that led to Ray's prison term -- plus delays in imposing the sentence.

She'll also appeal several rulings during the four-month trial, including one that said her office broke disclosure rules.

The sweat-lodge ceremony was part of Ray's Spiritual Warrior retreat near Sedona Arizona. He was convicted this summer.
