Judge denies another defense bid to declare mistrial in self-help author's manslaughter case

Camp Verde, Arizona - A Yavapai County judge has denied another request by a self-help author's attorneys to declare a mistrial in his manslaughter case.

Judge Warren Darrow made the ruling Monday.

Attorneys for James Arthur Ray argued last week that a mistrial is the only remedy for a trial that's been tainted by what they say is inappropriate questioning by the prosecution.

Darrow says prosecutors have asked leading questions that result in inadmissible hearsay. But he says those issues have been dealt with through objections and by striking testimony.

Darrow has rejected at least four defense attempts to bring the trial to an early end.

Ray has pleaded not guilty to three counts of manslaughter stemming from a sweat lodge ceremony he led near Sedona in October 2009.

Testimony resumes Tuesday.
